Nieuw kantgaren! New laceweight yarn!

Dit is "Centolavaggi" van het exclusieve Italiaanse merk Filatura di Crosa. Een waanzinnig zacht kantgaren van extrafijne merinowol , in 41 prachtige kleuren, waaronder 1 grijs/zwart melee tint. 1400 meter op 100 gram. De prijs is 11,95 per streng. Al op de afgelopen weefmarkt een groot succes gebleken! Ideaal voor kant breien, weven en voor de breimachine! We hadden dit type kantgaren nog niet maar met deze soort hebben echt iets heel bijzonders in huis gehaald, rechtstreeks uit Italy!

Already a big succes on the creative weavers market last wednesday! Ideal for lace knitting, weaving and for knitting machines! We did not sell this kind of laceweight yarn yet but with this yarn we really imported something special , directly form Italy!

Haak-demo van Melissa (Nieuws over haakworkshops!) Crochet Demo by Melissa (Crochet workshop news!)

Dit is Melissa. Een fervent haakster! Ze demonstreerde haar kunsten voor onze winkel op de weefmarkt afgelopen woensdag. Ze haakt hier een prachtig lang vest van Noro Silk Garden Lite. Op de tweede foto kan je het breiblad rechts zien liggen met een foto van het model dat ze maakt.

Maar dat is niet alles! Melissa gaat haakworkshops geven bij haar thuis! (Hoorn centrum) Ze gaat dan onder de naam Get Hooked! gezellige en leerzame workshops geven. Mocht je interesse hebben stuur dan even een mailtje naar info@schoutenhandwerken.nl en ik zorg dat het bij Melissa komt!

This is Melissa. She is a fanatic crochet-er! She was demonstrating her skills in front of our shop on the creative market in our town last wednesday. She is making a beautiful long cardigan with Noro Silk Garden lite. The second picture shows the magazine with the picture of it on the right.

But that's not all! Melissa is going to give crochet workshops at her home in the center of Hoorn! Her project name is Get Hooked! and will be great fun and very educational! If you are interested, send me an email to info@schoutenhandwerken.nl and I will forward it to Melissa!

Dit nieuwe garen in onze winkel is heel speciaal... Gesponnen van gerecyclede zijden sari's van en door vrouwen in Nepal. 1 groot kleurenfestijn en de mooiste/zachtste in z'n soort naar mijn mening. This new yarn in our shop is very special. Spun from recycled silk sari's from and by women in Nepal. Exceptional colour and texture! The most beautiful and softest of it's kind in my opinion. Purkie!

Collega Martine was thuis weer hard bezig aan een tweede sjaal van de prachtige handgeverfde katoen uit Chili, Araucania "Ulmo", en poes Purkie kon dat helemaal waarderen! Ik heb al weer nieuwe kleuren besteld...

My colleague Martine was making a second scarf at home from the wonderful hand dyed cotton from Chile, Araucania "Ulmo" an her cat "Purkie" totally appreciated that! I have ordered new colours that will arrive soon....

We zijn verhuisd! We moved!

Dit is ons nieuwe huis in Beets! We hebben er al veel aan gedaan, zoals een dakkapel die niet op de eerste maar wel op de tweede foto te zien is. Ook een nieuwe keuken, met prachtig uitzicht over landerijen erbij! Aan de achterkant van het huis hebben we heerlijk de ruimte , grenzend aan de Beemster ringvaart. Nog eens breien aan het water met een clubje? Stitch'n Beets?

This is our new house in the village of Beets. (pronounce as Bates) We have already remodelled quite a bit, for example a roof extension that shows on the second picture. Also a new kitchen that comes with a beautiful view. The spacious backyard is bordered by a canal called "The Beemster ringvaart" Knitting on the water, anyone? Stitch 'n Beets?

Biedermeier embroidery / borduren.

Ongeveer een 1,5 jaar geleden kwam er een klant in de winkel die een haardscherm wilde borduren met een afbeelding uit de Biedermeier-stijl. Ik had op dat moment geen idee maar ze vroeg me eens rond te kijken of ik iets kon vinden. Ik ging aan de slag en vond deze afbeelding met bijbehorend patroon in een Spaans borduurtijdschrift. Ik adviseerde haar, vooral over de kleur borduurstof. (voor de kenners: Zweigart Belfast in de kleur Platinum, nr 770.) Onlangs kwam ze vol trots haar borduurwerk laten zien. Ik vond dat erg leuk omdat je dat het resultaat van je advies ziet. Ik vond het ook bijzonder geslaagd en zie hier het resultaat! De onderste bloemenrand had ze zelf vanuit de grote afbeelding ontworpen! Voor meer info over Biedermeier op wikipedia klik hier.

About 1,5 year ago a customer came in asking about a specific "Biedermeier" style embroidery pattern for her fireplace decoration. I found this pattern for her in a Spanish magazine and advised her about the colour of the embroidery fabric.(Zweigart Belfast Platinum) Some time ago she came in again and proudly showed her beautiful work and this is the result! Amsterdam Traditional Textiles Fair.

Voor verzamelaars en liefhebbers van Kashmir shawls en ander etnisch textiel, zal zondag 24 mei 2009 een dag om te genieten zijn tijdens de Amsterdam Traditional Textiles Fair. Kashmir Heritage zal die dag zijn actuele collectie koninklijke en begerenswaardige Kashmir shawls tonen. Het gaat om kostbare en unieke handgeweven en handgeborduurde shawls (b.v. Kani, Sozni and Ari techniek) zoals die zijn voortgekomen uit een oude traditie van Moghul dynastieën in India.

Kani is is een handweeftechniek die in Kashmir toegepast wordt, daarbij worden spoeltjes (kani) gebruikt met daarop gewonden cashmeredraad. Volgens een zeer tijdrovende en complexe weefwijze wordt de shawl vervolgens slag voor slag opgebouwd op een handweefmachine. Het kan twee wevers tot wel drie jaar kosten om één shawl te weven. Voor deze kani shawls wordt het insulerende en superzachte en -lichte cashmere (pashmina) gebruikt, afkomstig van de Caprus Hircus geit uit het Himalaya gebergte.

Het complexe en prachtige borduurwerk (naald en ari) uit Kashmir is ook reeds eeuwen geroemd. Het ver ontwikkelde vakwerk is een absoluut feest voor het oog. Eén van de gebruikte borduurtechnieken is de zgn. Sozni steek, die gebruikt wordt als gelijkheid gevraagd is aan beide zijdes van de te borduren cashmere stof. Ari borduurwerk is een zwaardere kettingsteek die veelal op steviger merinowol geborduurd wordt.

Verder wordt er op deze textielbeurs nog een verscheidenheid aan textiel getoond zoals batik, indigo, ikat, plangi en quilts; geweven stoffen van over de hele wereld als Afrikaans textiel van de Ashanti, Bambara, Ewe, Fanti, Haussa, Kuba, Kente, Nupe, Shoowa, Woodabe, Yoruba. Ook textiel uit Afghanistan, Centraal Azië, van de Chinese minderheden, de Philippijnen, Pakistan, Guatemala, Peru en Ecuador. Antiek textiel uit Europa als kant en linnen maar ook hedendaagse handgemaakte Dutch design viltwerken.

For collectors of the Kashmir shawl and lovers of ethnic textiles, Sunday 24th of May 2009

will be a real treat. Kashmir Heritage will present its collection of royal and very collectable Kashmir shawls. It concerns costly and highly desirable handwoven and handembroided shawls (f.e. Kani, Sozni and Ari technique) derived from an old tradition of Moghul dynasties.
Kani is a handweaving technique unique for Kashmir in which the weaver(-s) uses kind of shuttles (kanis) with coloured cashmere on a handloom machine. It concerns very intricate and timeconsuming work. It can take two weavers up to three years to weave one shawl. Most of the weaving is done using the costly, insulating and supersoft- and light cashmere (pashmina quality).
The intricate and stunning (needle and ari) embroidery from Kashmir is also known for centuries. Depending on the intricacy and form of the needle work it will also take an artisan between 3 months and three years to finalize one shawl. The most refined work is done by old craftsmen. The refined handcraft is a real artform and an absoute joy for the eye.
One of the techniques used is Sozni stitch, which is used when uniformity is desired on both sides of the cashmere fabric. Amli embroidery in multicoloured threads is found in kani shawls.Furthermore a diversity of textiles will be presented in this fair like batik, indigo, ikat, plangi and quilts; weavings from all over the world such as African textiles of the Ashanti, Bambara, Ewe, Fanti, Haussa, Kuba, Kente, Nupe, Shoowa, Woodabe, Yoruba. Also textiles from Afghanistan, Central Asia, the Chinese minorities, Philippines, Pakistan, Guatemala, Peru and Ecuador. Antique textiles from Europe for example lace and linen kitchen towels as well as contemporary hand made Dutch design felt.Traditional textiles can be of great value. Not only the way in which fabrics are woven, worked on or dyed, but also the fabrics are representing an interesting past. If you recognise the symbols, you know the meaning of them. A valuable past must be saved with care and respect. This is not easy because traditional textiles often are perished or has no meaning anymore.

Araucania "Ulmo"

Deze prachtige handgeverfde katoen uit Chili is momenteel onderhanden bij Martine. Zij maakte thuis een paar mooie foto's van haar "werk in uitvoering" Er zullen uiteindelijk 2 strengen gaan in deze sjaal.

This wonderful Chilean hand dyed cotton is what my colleague Martine is knitting for her latest scarf creation. She made some very nice pictures at home of her work in progress. This scarf will take 2 skeins.

Een geweldig (alweer?) nieuw Noro garen, ECHT heel mooi (jaja..) en heerlijk zzzzzacht!(geloof me nou...)
Noro Taiyo , heerlijk voor de zomer want de samenstelling is 40% katoen, 30% zijde, 15% wol en 15% nylon. 16 steken/10 cm. 100 gram, 200 meter. Pen 4,5-5. Komt dat zien! (en voelen...)

Another fabulous (I use this word a lot) new Noro yarn, so beautiful and so soft! Noro Taiyo, wonderful for summer because the composition is 40% cotton, 30% silk, 15 % wool and 15% nylon. 16 stitches/4 inches. 100 grams, 200 meters. needles 4,5 - 5 mm. Come in and have a look and feel the softness of this yarn....

Oh my Goat!

Mij collega Marga maakte deze zeer realistische geit, het ziet er zo leuk en koddig uit! Binnenkort verhuis ik naar het platteland dus misschien moet ik hem nog even lenen voor de in tuin!

Hello Lauren Sofia!

Dit is ons nieuwe nichtje Lauren Sofia. Is het geen schatje? Deze babydeken is voor haar gebreid van Lana Grossa "New Leggero" (makkelijk te wassen en superzachte microfibres in dit garen) en was een kraamcadeau voor mamma Heidi.

This is our new niece Lauren Sofia. Isn't she adorable? This baby blanket was knitted using Lana Grossa's "New Leggero".(easy to wash and supersoft microfibre yarn) It was a gift to mummy Heidi.

Nieuw sokkengaren "SOJA" van Lana Grossa.

Dit nieuwe sokkengaren is 60 % merino/20 % soja/20 % nylon. Het voelt heerlijk zacht en ik ben blij dat we weer wat meer unikleuren in de winkel hebben! Uit de ecolijn Linea Pura.

Dit prachtige schilderij is geborduurd met een pakket van Lanarte uit onze winkel. Ik heb het laten inlijsten (exclusieve Italiaanse lijst) door een zeer bekwame vriend van mij, Jan Snoek, die een werkelijk schitterende lijstenwinkel heeft in hartje Volendam. Meer weten?
